Victoria ISD invites former students, families, staff and community members to return to Shields Elementary School for a Shields Community Walk on Tuesday, Oct. 20, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
The community walk will provide an opportunity for those who have been part of the Shields Elementary story over the years to come together, reconnect and walk through the campus before the building is closed to the public.
Shields Elementary served generations of Victoria students and families before closing at the conclusion of the 2025-26 school year. The VISD Board of Trustees approved the campus closure in May following the district's attendance boundary review process and consideration of ongoing facility and operational concerns. As part of the voter-approved Bond 2026 program, the Shields Elementary facility is also included among district buildings identified for demolition.
During the Shields Community Walk, guests will be invited to tour designated areas of the campus at their own pace, revisit familiar spaces and share memories from their time at Shields. VISD is also planning opportunities throughout the campus for former students, employees and families to reflect on the school's history and the generations of students and staff who called Shields home. Additional details about activities and the event setup will be shared as plans are finalized.

The event is open to former Shields students and employees, families and members of the Victoria community who would like an opportunity to visit the campus.
The Shields Community Walk is intended to recognize the role the campus has played in Victoria ISD and provide the community an opportunity to walk its halls together one more time before the facility closes to the public.
