The Victoria Independent School District (VISD) Board of Trustees has announced the official hiring of Ms. Sheila Collazo as Superintendent of Schools. The decision was finalized during the regular monthly board meeting on Nov. 21, following a state-required 21-day waiting period after naming her the lone finalist.
Ms. Collazo brings a wealth of experience and a robust background in educational leadership to VISD. She joins us from Somerset ISD near San Antonio, where she has made significant contributions as the Deputy Superintendent for the past eight years. Under her leadership, Somerset ISD achieved an "A" rating in the Texas Accountability System, which highlights her effectiveness in enhancing educational outcomes.
Her extensive career includes state, regional, and district administrative leadership roles, along with teaching experience at elementary and secondary levels. She has led and developed numerous statewide initiatives for the Texas Education Agency. Ms. Collazo holds a bachelor’s degree and a Master of Science in education from Texas A&M University-Kingsville.
Ms. Collazo is committed to public education and setting high standards for student success. She advocates for creating optimal learning environments that challenge the status quo and promote excellence and innovation. Her philosophy emphasizes the importance of accountability and continuous improvement in all areas of educational work.
“As leaders of today’s learners, it is our collective responsibility to create the culture and conditions for all students to excel by upholding the highest standards of excellence, challenging the status quo, staying current with the demands for staff and students, and accepting accountability for all aspects of our work — every day, all the time,” Ms. Collazo said.
The VISD Board of Trustees is confident that Ms. Collazo’s leadership will greatly benefit our district as we strive to prepare our students to meet current and future demands, ensuring they compete and succeed on a global stage.
